Why connection notes are so short
LinkedIn keeps the note short on purpose: it is an introduction, not a pitch. On a free account you have 200 characters, roughly two short sentences, and only a few personalized notes a month. Premium and Sales Navigator get 300.
That is enough for one thing: a reason. The notes that get accepted say why you're writing to this person now, in their terms, and ask for nothing in return.
A shape that fits in 200 characters
Their name, the reason (a hire, a launch, something they posted), one line on why that matters to you, and a light close. For example: "Hi Sam, saw Acme is hiring a first SDR. We help teams that size find accounts showing a reason to buy. Glad to connect." That's 119 characters.
Leave out the company history, the feature list and the calendar link. They can all come later, once they've accepted.

| InMail subject | 200 | Under 60, specific to them |

LinkedIn changes these limits from time to time and doesn't publish all of them in one place. Checked October 2026; the counter in LinkedIn's own box is the final word.
Questions people ask
What is the LinkedIn connection request character limit?
200 characters on a free account and 300 on Premium or Sales Navigator, as of October 2026. Spaces, punctuation and line breaks all count, and emoji count as two.
How many personalized connection notes can I send on a free account?
LinkedIn limits free accounts to a few personalized notes a month and doesn't publish an exact number that holds for everyone. If you're out, you can still send the invitation without a note.
Should I send a note at all?
Only if it carries a real reason. A note with a specific reason gets accepted more often than no note; a generic note ("I'd like to add you to my network") does no better than none.
Does this tool store what I type?
No. The counter runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
